SYOSSET #2
Rob Lorenson is an artist who has followed his passion to create, and the artworld has responded by awarding him with multiple accolades. He has received major awards such as Joan Mitchell Foundation grants, as well as numerous major public commissions.
Lorenson’s “Syosset” compels us to ponder the relationship between nature and technology. The sculpture is made from metal–a man-made material. Yet, it embodies the quintessential spiritual dilemma of finding balance within a tense and precarious environment. This is precisely the situation in which we find ourselves every day; human beings that know innately we are interconnected with our earth and others, grappling with how to interact harmoniously with both.
Lorenson’s sculpture is a reminder that these forces are not mutually exclusive, but can be interwoven with one another, if we exercise that which is the best in our human selves.
